Signing of Grant Agreement with Mauritania: Contributing to enhancing capacity of sanitary inspection and analysis of fishery and aquaculture product through the construction of a sanitary inspection and analysis laboratory and the provision of equipment

On February 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania inNouakchott to provide grant aid of up to 1.425 billion yen for the Project for Construction of Inspection and Analysis Laboratory of National Office of Sanitary Inspection of Fishery and Aquaculture Products in Nouadhibou.

Under this project, an inspection and analysis laboratory will be constructed in Nouadhibou and equipment will be provided with the aims of maintaining and enhancing the capacity to carry out sanitary inspections on fishery and aquaculture products. The project will contribute to improving the safety of, adding value to and increasing the competitiveness of exports of the fishery and aquaculture products of Mauritania.

Specific project details (provisional) (1) Facility improvements/equipment procurement
Facilities: A laboratory and administration office building (three stories about 3,628 m2 in size), an electrical room and warehouse (about 88 m2)
Equipment: Testing equipment on sensory analysis, microbiological analysis, chemical analysis, molecular biology analysis
and other tests
(2) Consulting services
Detailed design work, bidding assistance, construction/procurement supervision,
(as guidance in managing the facilities) technical guidance in creating a system for operating, maintaining and managing the facilities and equipment, revising inspection procedure manuals, improving inspection precision, renewing international certifications, other
