photosingning ceremony

On September 3, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of Republic of Madagascar in Antananarivo, to provide grant aid of up to 2.596 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Mangoro Bridge and Antsapazana Bridge in the National Road No.2 (Antananarivo-Toamasina).

This project will replace two aging bridges on the National Road No.2, a principal road connecting Antananarivo, the capital city in Madagascar, and Toamasina port, a major international port in southern Africa, and widen it to two lanes. The project will stimulate trade within Madagascar as well as in the southern African region. In addition, it is estimated that the handling volume of Toamasina port will be quadrupled by 2035 through the implementation of the Toamasina Port Development Project, which is currently on going under Japanese ODA loan assistance. This project will create synergies with the on-going project by strengthening connectivity between the two cities.
