Signing of Japanese ODA Loan Agreement with Thailand: Contributing to the production of practical and innovative engineers by introducing KOSEN education

On March 30, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand in Bangkok to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 9.434 billion yen for Industrial Human Resources Development Project.

This project aims to promote the production of practical and innovative engineers who are urgently required by industries in Thailand by (i) establishing two new “KOSEN schools (Colleges of Technology) in Bangkok and providing education in Thailand that meets the standards of such colleges in Japan, and (ii) offering study opportunities in KOSEN in Japan. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 4, 8, and 9.

In recent years, KOSEN education, a unique education system in Japan which provides specialized technology and expertise at an early stage, has been recognized by companies and universities in Japan and is gaining attention from other countries.

This project marks the first time that Japanese-style KOSEN education has been fully introduced overseas, and it is expected to be a model case for the expansion of KOSEN education overseas.
