Japan-Southeast Asian Meeting for South-South Cooperation (J-SEAM)

JICA has provided support to the formulation of need-oriented South-South cooperation in the ASEAN region through the JICA-ASEAN Regional Cooperation Meeting (JARCOM). In 2009, JARCOM was redirected to a new mechanism, the Japan-Southeast Asian Meeting for South-South Cooperation or J-SEAM, whose purposes include the formulation and implementation of well-prepared South-South technical cooperation, South-South cooperation quality improvement, and the maintenance and enhancement of the network between JICA and member agencies in Southeast Asian countries. J-SEAM also attaches more importance to the development of policies and planning in member countries as well as JICA's cooperation priorities for each country.

ASEAN University Network / Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net)

The Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (SEED-Net) Project was officially established as an autonomous sub-network of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) in April 2001. The AUN/SEED-Net project aims at promoting human resources development in engineering in ASEAN for the region's sustainable economic development. Now the project is in its third phase.

Peer-to-peer collaboration facilitated by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD)

Established in 2002, APCD is committed to facilitating collaboration among organizations of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region to empowerment and an inclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society.

Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Waste Management in Pacific Island countries (J-PRISM)

This is a triangular cooperation project in waste management in the Pacific, forming a network for knowledge sharing among the countries in the region.

Latin America

Koban Project (Japan - Brazil – Latin America)

The Japanese Koban system, developed as a mechanism of community policing, is spreading to Central and South America in partnership with Brazil who has been successfully introduced this system.

TAISHIN (Earthquake-Resistant Popular Housing) Project (Japan – Mexico - El Salvador)

This project presents an successful example of In Japan-Mexico Partnership Programme (JMPP) signed between the government of Japan and the government of Mexico in 2003, Japan supports Mexico's South-South Cooperation to transfer its technical knowledge. The TAISHIN project is one of the most successful examples of South-South Cooperation developed under the JMPP framework.

Project of Strengthening and consolidation of production and use of improved sesame seeds for small-scale farmers in Paraguay (Japan – Mexico - Paraguay)

Technical cooperation project implemented in Paraguay, in collaboration with National Institute for Research in Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry of Mexico, with the aim of improving sesame small-scale farmers' income through increased crop.

Angels Project (Japan - El Salvador – Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic)

Project awarded the Outstanding Performance Award at the High Level Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation. Salvadoran local nurses who had undergone past JICA assistance programs worked in turn with Japanese experts to train nursing education instructors in neighboring countries.

Sub-Saharan Africa

Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Education - Western, Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (SMASE-WECSA)

Network-type cooperation to facilitate experience sharing and mutual learning on mathematics and science education among African countries.

Coalition for African Rice Department (CARD)

The initiative CARD launched on the occasion on the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) has now become a consultation framework for knowledge sharing among rice producing countries in Africa and international organizations

Middle East and North Africa

Project for Capacity Development on Solid Waste Management in Jericho and Jordan River Rift Valley

Project initiated by JICA in 2005, in the West Bank region of Palestine, to enhance the capabilities of waste management administrators. JICA provides assistance using Japanese expertise in various other cities around the world, including China, Indonesia, Viet Nam and certain countries of the Pacific.

Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD)

Japan, a major partner to Palestine, has launched a framework to promote South-South cooperation for Palestinians by East Asian countries.
