Infectious Disease Surveillance Project (AmRIDS)

PhotoOrientation of kebele surveillance officers (local volunteers of AmRids)

The Project for Strengthening Infectious Disease Prevention, Control and Response in Amhara Region (AmRids) also started in 2008 and is scheduled to end in 2014. The unique structure of this cooperation scheme is the direct engagement of the regional government with the local community by providing technical support. Local volunteers work with the AmRids project team to provide public service in promoting good healthcare measures in their community and are an essential component of the project. The local government in the Amhara region works together with the volunteers to sustain the objectives of the JICA AmRids project. Both COBANA and AmRids are highly effective and have resulted in progress for tackling the nutrition problem and early detection and management of infectious disease in Ethiopia. Currently, this mechanism for local volunteers to work on the ground is established by the government and ensures that health development in Ethiopia is sustainable and progressive.
