Quality Seed Promotion Project Successfully Completed

Quality Seed Promotion Project (QSPP) which has been implemented jointly by JICA and Ministry of Agriculture for the last four and half years (Feb 2010 to Aug 2014) was completed.

The main purpose of the project is increasing the use of quality seeds and disseminates technologies to small holder farmers.

On 8th August, 2014, the Final Seminar was held, and some of the significant achievements had been shared as below, and issues for the future had been discussed.

  • Developed and distributed 7 new quality seed production technologies to farmers.
  • Provided Capacity building trainings for Government counterparts.
  • Established 5 seed quality testing laboratories.
  • Introduced SFS (Seed Farmers School) as an approach to promote quality seed production and marketing for small holder farmers in Ethiopia. (A total of 69 SFSs were conducted and 2,024 farmers have graduated in 3 years).

Having these significant achievements, it is expected that the achievements and results of the project will sustain and scaled up to other areas in the future.
