The Third Batch of Triangular Cooperation of Third Country Training Program left for Indonesia to attend a ten month training on science and mathematics field

Eight science and mathematics lecturers from Ethiopian Teachers Training Colleges have left for the Republic of Indonesia on January 31, 2015 to attend a 10 month training program under the framework of Triangular Cooperation of Third Country Training Program. The three year program has been executed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ministry of Education of Ethiopia and Indonesian Education University/UPI since 2012.

The Ethiopian counterpart has selected 8 sciences and mathematics lectures for the 3rd Batch form Harar Teachers Education College and Dr. Abdulmegied Husien Teachers Training Colleges of Harar and Ethio-Somali Regional States respectively.

The purpose of the Training Program is to provide the participants from Ethiopia with an opportunity to improve the quality of Pre-service Education and Training (PRESET) in the field of Mathematics and Science Education.

While receiving departure orientation from JICA, Ethiopia Office, the participants appreciated JICA for giving them an opportunity to improve their capacity in the area of pedagogy and methodology of teaching science and mathematics field, which they said is a timely intervention. They also pledged, after completion of their training, they would share the new skills and knowledge they will have acquired to their respective colleagues in the college.

The triangular cooperation program which will come to an end this year has provided for nearly 24 Ethiopians college teachers including for three female participants.

According to the program schedule, the participants will take several courses of subject specific pedagogy in Master's degree program of Indonesia University of Education/UPI, engage in the provision of selected undergraduate program of UPI as on the Job Training and extensively participate in lesson study, which UPI has more than 10 years' experience in implementing such an international collaboration program.

The program envisage that, up on return to Ethiopia, the participants are expected to share the knowledge and skills obtained in the training program in their own stations and to implement action plan that they prepared at the end of the training program in Indonesia.
