A Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for the "Studies of Anti-viral and Anti-parasitic Compounds from Selected Ghanaian Medicinal Plants" has been held on February 20, 2013 at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
Progress Report from Clinical Pathology, Virology and Parasitology, NMIMR and Centre for Scientific Research into Plant medicine (CSRPM), updated and plan for 2013 was discussed. The project team promised to strengthen communication to facilitate the effective implementation of the Project and work together with counterpart to prepare plan for 2013.
Participants at the event include Prof.Kwadwo Koram, Director of NMIMR, Prof. Dominic Edoh, Director of CSRPMMr. Peter Arhin, Director of Traditional and Alternative Medicine Directorate, Ministry of Health (MoH), Mr.Okyere-Nyako of Ministry of Finance & Economic Planning (MoFEP), Mr. Satoru Watanabe from JICA Headquarters, Mr. Jiro Inamura, Chief Representative of JICA Ghana Office, Researchers in NMIMR and in CSRPM, and Japanese experts including Prof. Shoji Yamaoka, Chief Advisor for the project.
The objective of the project is to improve the research and development capacity of Ghanaian research institutes for Ghanaian medicinal plants-derived, anti-viral and anti-parasitic compounds. The Study is conducted through collaborative research activities with Japanese research institutes such as Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Nagasaki International University. The project has commenced in April 2010 and will end in March 2015.
