JICA Celebrates 12th Anniversary of VLFM / CSM Learning Convention
- Enhancing Change Leaders to Accelerate Innovation in Indian Manufacturing Sector -

Mumbai, July 25, 2018: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) celebrated 12th Anniversary of Visionary Leaders For Manufacturing (VLFM)/ Champions for Societal Manufacturing (CSM) Learning Convention, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The convention focused on Leader's Mindset Change that leads to personal, organizational, and social transformation in manufacturing sector. This memorial event was supported by JICA's Technical Cooperation Project of CSM.

During the present edition of the Convention, 60 graduates of 11th Batch received certificate and accolades by Mr. Ryoji Noda, Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai; Mr. Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman, VLFM Initiative & Past President, CII, and Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative, JICA India Office among other dignitaries. Also, the 12th Batch consisting of 70 new participants from manufacturing industry and others was commenced at the same occasion. New batch members joined Senior Management Course of the program, which consists of five modules and a Japan visit. Through this one year program, participants will deepen their understanding, widen their perspective and change their mindset to transform themselves from effective managers to visionary leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative, JICA India Office, said, "JICA is continuously supporting this unique program in partnership with the industry, government and academia, since its beginning. With the close relationship between India and Japan, JICA is now supporting more than 100 projects in India. Among them, CSM project is one of the most successful projects for human resource development supported by JICA. In India, there are thousands of success stories of social innovation but still there are various difficulties to realize innovative approach and we have to keep on learning. India will be one of biggest economies soon. I expect the participant to demonstrate great leadership and contribution towards development of India."

The CSM Project aims to develop visionary leaders of Indian manufacturing sector and to accelerate the growth of India's manufacturing sector in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), academia from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, IIT Madras and IIM Calcutta, and CII. The CSM is implemented on the basis of the framework and outcomes of the VLFM Project, which was officially initiated in 2007. In 2013, VLFM program was upgraded into the CSM Project.

The VLFM/CSM project has produced more than 1,000 Visionary Leaders through Senior Management and Middle Management Courses. The CSM project has also contributed to empower more than 1,000 Small and Micro Industries through VSME (Visionary SME) and Visionary Learning Community in India (VLCI )activities.
