Indonesia

The history of the cooperation dates back even before the establishment of diplomatic relations. In 1954, right after its participation in the Colombo Plan, Japan accepted 15 trainees from Indonesia for the first time. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1958, Japan has consistently provided support to Indonesia until today. Japan is the largest donor country in Indonesia (see page 31), accounting for 45% of the cumulative total of ODA to Indonesia since 1960. Meanwhile, among 190 countries and regions where Japan has provided ODA, Indonesia is the largest recipient country (1960-2015, 11.3%). The close ties between the two countries are absolute.
