This technical cooperation project (the project) is to enhance the function of the integrated marine fisheries center (Sentra Kelautan dan Perikanan Terpadu: SKPT) and fish markets in 6 outer islands (Sabang, Natuna, Morotai, Saumlaki, Moa and Biak) that will be developed by the Grand Aid Programme.[1]

It is necessary for the vitalization of the marine and fisheries economy in outer islands not only to develop physical infrastructure such as fishing port and ice storage, but also to improve the ability to operate vessels and fishing, and handling catches to increase the productivities of the fisheries.

Therefore, the project is expected to contribute to the promotion of sustainable outer island's fisheries by effective utilization of the SKPT facilities and fish markets through the capacity development of SKPT stakeholders, and furthermore contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 14 "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development".

The main activities of the project are to provide SKPT users including local people and the facility manager of SKPT with the technical trainings and seminars on fisheries development, and to support the formulation of operation and maintenance plan of SKPT. The project duration is 3 years and 9 months and the project will start immediately after the first dispatch of Japanese Experts to Indonesia.
