Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Joint Study of 100% Electricity Supply from Renewable Energy Based Power Plants in Remote Areas

Bali, September 22, 2022, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) (PT. PLN) and Kyudenko Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Joint Study of 100% Electricity Supply from Renewable Energy Based Power Plants in Remote Areas. The MoU signing took place during a series of "Seminar for the Development of EBT Baseload through Hydropower and Geothermal Generation in The Framework of Energy Transition" in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The document was signed by Takehiro Yasui, Chief representative of JICA Indonesia office, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto, Director of Mega Projects and Renewable Energy of PLN, and Yoshiaki Tanaka, Head of EMS Business Green Innovation Department of Kyudenko corporation.

Through this MoU, JICA will support PT. PLN and Kyudenko corporation in a joint study on the technical and commercial viability of Energy Management System (EMS) in Nunukan and Sebatik Islands, East Kalimantan. The signing on this cooperation will contribute to Indonesia's effort to reduce emission while also increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix through the promotion of low-carbon energy production and the use of locally-available renewable energy resources.

JICA has been closely cooperated with PT. PLN in renewable energy implementation across Indonesia through various support scheme such as ODA loans and Technical assistances. Furthermore, JICA has joined hands with Kyudenko in a collaboration program under Public-Private Partnerships scheme. Through the collaboration, Kyudenko found a possibility to utilize its ESMS to supply electricity from renewable energy in Indonesia.

Key areas of support under this MoU include -but not limited to- exchange of data and/or information related to the joint study, as well as capacity building and knowledge transfer of Energy Management System applicable to PLN's system.

JICA will continue to support Indonesia's effort in providing electricity for the people through low-carbon quality infrastructure.
