Jakarta, 26 September 2022, JICA handed over 260,000 viral transport media (VTM) to strengthen public health laboratories in 34 Provincial Health Offices in Indonesia as a step to overcome COVID-19 and follow-up checks such as whole genome sequencing.
The handover ceremony was conducted by Yu Nakahira, Project Formulation Advisor of JICA Indonesia and Dr. Yudhi Pramono, MARS, Secretary of the Directorate General of the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control at the office of Ministry of Health.
Since 2020, JICA has started "JICA's Initiative for Global Health and Medicine" for strengthening 1) Treatment, 2) Precaution and 3) Prevention from 2020, in order to fortify the resilience against the pandemic.

The provision of consumables is aimed at a faster process for the testing process and utilizing VTM for a faster specimen transport process for testing contact tracing cases, suspected cases and close contacts, and virus spread prevention in the screening step.
