Signing of Record of Discussions for the Republic of Indonesia:
The Project for Breeding Innovation in Chili Pepper and Tomato to Accelerate Sustainable Vegetable Production in Tropical Regions

Bandung, 15 March 2023, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed Record of Discussions (R/D) with Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), Republic of Indonesia for a Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) " The Project for Breeding Innovation in Chili Pepper and Tomato to Accelerate Sustainable Vegetable Production in Tropical Regions". The joint research is conducted under the framework of technical cooperation involving various University Researchers, and Government Officials from Japanese and Indonesian institutions. The aim of this project is to establish the advanced breeding platforms for tomato and chili pepper and Center of Advanced Breeding Technique/CAB-Tech functions as a core center for advanced breeding for the sustainability of vegetable production in Indonesia.

Implementing Agency Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and University of Tsukuba
Location Project Sites are Jatinangor (Sumedang District, West Java Province), Lembang (West Bandung District, West Java Province), Cibinong (Bogor District, West Java Province), and also some other Districts shall be selected for fields surveys and cultivation trials after the commencement of the Project.
Project Outputs Output 1: Selection of heat-tolerant promising lines of tomato, preparation of registration of excellent lines, and the establishment of cultivation techniques.
Output 2: Selection of anthracnose-resistant promising lines of chili, preparation of registration of excellent lines, and the establishment of cultivation techniques.
Output 3: Evaluation for the applicability of excellent lines of tomato and chili pepper through Socio-economic analysis.
Output 4: Establishment of CAB-Tech making sure of this functionality to accelerate the vegetable breeding process and promote dissemination of new cultivars.
