JICA Day was celebrated on November 4, 2011 in Kingston. The event was held at the Girl Guides Association in Jamaica and an exhibition was mounted by JICA/JOCV Jamaica Office.
The overall event was organized by the JICA Alumni Association in Jamaica as one of its main activities during FY2011. The JAAJ also encourages Cultural Exchange every year on Japanese Culture Day.
His Excellency Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica, second left and Madame Yamaguchi, viewed the Exhibition with Mr. Kineo Nishiyama, Resident Representative of JICA Jamaica Office, left and Mr. Mark Barnett, President of the JICA Alumni Association in Jamaica.
JICA Volunteers have been dispatched to Jamaica since 1989 and the exhibition showed the various activities the volunteers have been involved in. They have served in several Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Government of Jamaica.
His Excellency Hiroshi Yamaguchi brought greetings on the occasion of the “JICA Day” event, showcasing the work of the JICA Volunteers in Jamaica and a cultural exchange evening.
JICA Volunteers performed their musical selections at a successful “JICA Day” concert which took place in the evening of November 4, 2011.
Mr. Akira Tonouchi, JICA Senior Volunteer assigned to the Jamaica Productivity Centre, Ministry of Labour & Social Security, has contributed significantly to the improvement of productivity at the JPC.
The Carifolk Singers performed Jamaican selections at the cultural exchange segment of the “JICA Day” event on November 4, 2011.
