Handover Ceremony of Track & Field Hurdles
-"Smile for All in the World" Program with Tottori Prefecture-

The Handover Ceremony of Hurdles from Japan's Tottori Athletics Association to the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) was held on May 30, 2017. Jamaican attendees included Dr. Warren Blake, President of the JAAA, Mr. Walton Small, Principal of Wolmers' High School for Boys and athletes of this high school, where these hurdles will be actually used for training. Japan side's attendees included Japan's Ambassador, H.E. Masanori Nakano, Mr. Kenji Tobita, Resident Representative, JICA Jamaica, Mr. Yoshiaki Nagoshi, public administration officer from the Tottori Prefectural Government who is working at the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation as a JICA Volunteer.

Three (3) sets of eight (8) hurdles and three (3) carrying carts were handed over on this day. Another two (2) sets of eight (8) second-hand hurdles will arrive and be donated later this year additionally.

The Tottori Athletics Association of Japan and the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) had signed a friendship agreement in May, 2016 to promote exchange of athletes between both countries. These hurdles were used in a sports park in Tottori Prefecture, where the Jamaican athletic team held training camps, prior to the " IAAF World Championship in Athletics" in 2007 and 2011.

The Tottori Prefecture on the West side of Japan, has had a relationship with Jamaica's track and field team for almost 10 years, since the Jamaica National Team had located its training camp there. Therefore, the twinning agreement between Tottori Prefecture and the Parish of Westmoreland was signed officially in 2015. This relationship has brought these two countries closer and one public administration officer, Mr. Yoshiaki Nagoshi from the Tottori Prefecture, is serving at the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation for two years under JICA's Volunteer Program.

JICA has assisted in the transportation of the hurdles from Japan to Jamaica through JICA's "Smile for All in the World" Program.
