Cooperation with Other Regional Networks

May 2009 (East Asian Development Network organized its 10th Annual Forum in Bangkok, Thailand)

The 10 th EADN Annual Forum was held on May 21-22. The two-day meeting included presentations of research plans of 15 individual research projects, presentations of preliminary results from regional research project on "A Study of FDI in East Asia," discussions on EADN, GDN and future activities and EADN management committee meeting.

November 2005 (East Asian Development Network Seventh Annual Forum held by TDRI and HKPRI, Hong Kong)

The 7th EADN Annual Forum was held by TDRI and the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute (HKPRI) in Hong Kong. There was a presentation on the draft for GDN's Global Research Project titled "Impact of Rich Countries Policies on Poverty" as well as a proposal on possible themes for their next Regional Research Projects.
Representing GDN-Japan, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) made a presentation on GDN-Japan's recent activities, JBIC Institute's cooperation with the University of Indonesia, and the Japanese Government's contributions to the Global Development Awards.

December 2004 (East Asian Development Network Sixth Annual Forum held by TDRI, Thailand)

The 6th EADN Annual Forum was held by the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) in Bangkok from December 15 ~ 18, 2004. Besides the distribution of a copy of the report regarding the recent Regional Research Project titled "Income Distribution and Sustainable Development in East Asia," there were presentations on the three ongoing projects; "Labor Migration and East Asian Integration," "Urban Poverty and Social Safety Nets in East Asia," and "Political Transition and Development in East Asia" to which participants made comments.
Representatives of GDN-Japan informed participants of GDN-Japan's recent activities and its plan to hold a joint session with EADN at the next Dakar Annual Global Development Conference in January 2005.

October, 2003 (East Asian Development Network Fifth Annual Forum held by IDEAS, Singapore)

On October 10-11, 2003, the East Asian Development Network (EADN) Fifth Annual Forum, was held in Singapore. The progress on the Regional Research Projects on "Income Distribution and Sustainable Development in East Asia", "Cross Border Migration in East Asia", "Urban Poverty and Safety Nets in East Asia", and "Political Transition and Development in East Asia" were reported.
From Japan, Dr. Masahiro Kawai, Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo, held a presentation on "Challenges for Regional Economic Integration in East Asia". JBIC attended to introduce the recent activities of GDN-Japan, and IDE-JETRO participated as a discussant in the session presenting various individual researches.

October 2003 (Launch of Oceania Development Network)

On October 1, 2003, the Oceania Development Network (ODN) was officially launched and held the First Annual Meeting. In the meeting, JBIC introduced the recent activities of GDN-Japan. ODN is unique in that it is the only regional network that encompasses both the developing countries in the Pacific Islands and the developed countries (Australia and New Zealand).

July, 2002 (Symposium held by FDC, Australia)

The Development Research Symposium on "South Pacific Futures" was held in Brisbane, Australia from July 22 to 24, 2002 by the Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC), the former hub institution of the GDN regional network of the Pacific-Region .
Parallel sessions were held for each of the sub themes of this symposium, which were 1) Governance and Democracy, 2) Sustainable Development, 3) Managing Conflict, and 4) Knowledge Creation and Capacity Building. From GDN-Japan, Japan Bank for International Cooperation held a parallel session on "Region-Based Economic Development Strategies" and argued that the region-based economic development strategies could also be applied to the development in remoteislands.

June, 2002 (East Asian Development Network Fourth Annual Forum held by IDEAS, Singapore)

In June, 2002, the East Asian Development Network Fourth Annual Forum was held on June 23-24, 2002 at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore. The result of the first Global Research Project (GRP) "Explaining Growth" and the second Regional Research Project (PRC) "Income Distribution and Sustainable Economic Development: The East Asia Experience" were reported at the forum. There were 48 participants from 12 countries. From Japan, Dr. Tatsufumi Yamagata, Associate Professor, IDE Advanced School (IDEAS), Institute of Developing Economies, the Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) attended as an advisor for the GRP and two staff from JBIC Institute, Japan Bank for International Cooperation also attended to introduce GDN-Japan.
