An international forum was held at JICA-RI on April 2 to explore how the world has been changing through globalization and in light of this, discuss how the direction and roles of development assistance should shift accordingly. The two-part event was co-sponsored by JICA and the World Bank, and the discussions of the second session also served as input for the World Bank World Development Report 2011 on conflict and state fragility.
The Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Chinami Nishimura, commenced the event with a speech. Former Prime Minister of Korea Han Seung-Soo, Surin Pitsuwan of ASEAN, Justin Lin of the World Bank, and former Sony Corporation chairman Nobuyuki Idei, together with JICA President Sadako Ogata spoke on a range of topics from the increasing interdependence of nations, to the benefits of regional integration, and to the need for greater collaboration in development assistance to create more "win-win" situations for all parties.
