Introduction of the Issyk-Kul model of OVOP project to other regions of Kyrgyzstan

On July 27-28, 2017, 52 participants representing government authorities, donor projects and business sector had a Study Tour to explore the Issyk-Kul model of OVOP project. Regional development specialists from Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken, Talas, Naryn and Chui administrations as well as producers from Batken, Osh, Talas and members of "Jash Ishkerler Association" took part at the introduction of OVOP project.

The group visited several jaamats (local factories) within the Joint factory on felt production of the OVOP Association in the Balykchy and Karakol cities, and Shor-Bulak, Kyzyl-Tuu, Ak-Sai and Orgochor villages. The products produced in this jaamats are going for export to Japanese corporation "MUJI".

During the study tour, OVOP+1 project demonstrated the full production cycle from cleaning and dying of wool to the quality control check and packaging of final product. After introduction and presentation of jaamats, representatives of other regions and business sector had a chance to ask questions regarding production process, export to Japan and profit of producers.

On July 28, 2017 the group had a meeting with the Mr.Monoldorov who is the First Deputy of Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Government in the Issyk-Kul region. Mr.Monoldorov expressed his gratitude to the JICA and OVOP project for their efforts and assured all participants that the Issyk-Kul region is strongly committed to sustain the achieved results. At the end of the meeting he hoped that other regions of the country will succeed in the introduction of Issyk-Kul model in the nearest future.

Participants thanked organizers and JICA for such an informative study tour. They also gave a positive feedback and expressed their interest to implement Issyk-Kul model in their regions. Most of the participants were asking for JICA assistance in the introduction of OVOP to their cities and villages.
