Seminar on Strengthening Role and Function of Farmers Organization in the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Bishkek.

Seminar was organized by JICA training center in Hokkaido in cooperation with Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration and Cooperatives Union of Kyrgyzstan.

During the seminar participants examined the experience of Japan on development and management of agricultural cooperatives and discussed with experts from Japan the way for solving the problems that cooperatives face in Kyrgyzstan.

"At present among the farmers there is an understanding of importance of cooperation and consolidation of efforts, resources and production for joint selling of products and joint purchase of materials and supplies. This would provide additional income to farmers that they are currently loosing due to small-scale commodity production", - noted one of the seminar participants Anara Baijumanova, trainer of the seminar participants Anara Baijumanova, trainer of the Cooperatives Union of Kyrgyzstan.

During the visit members of mission from Hokkaido, Japan met with ex-trainees of the course "Strengthening Role and Function of Farmers Organization in Central Asia" and discussed the progress and problems they face in implementation of the action plans on agricultural cooperatives development that they have developed in Japan.

Mission visited agricultural cooperatives in Issyk-Kul region "Ichke Suu", "Issyk-Kul Organica", "Bagrintsev" and cooperative "Kochkor logistics" in Naryn region for more in-depth review of cooperatives work, and collect information that will be useful for improvement of program of the training course in Japan.

Experts from Japan recommended establishing the Working Group with participation of all interested parties in Kyrgyzstan, including ex-trainees of JICA course for defining the common vision on direction for agricultural cooperation development and discussion of tasks for improvement of JICA course program.
