How to improve the quality of straw for cattle feeding

Dairy farmers in the Kyrgyz Republic face difficulties in obtaining the feed especially in winter.

As one of the measures, MOMP project has been introducing technique on how they can improve the quality of poor straw with ammonia which is generated by decomposing the urea. Actually, it is recommended to apply such technique in summer time. However the project tried it from late autumn to winter because it was necessary to know if this technique is applicable or not during cold season. After 40 days the quality of straw has been checked by the expert and it has been determined that straw is good and can be used for feeding cows.
