Activities in Malawi

Social Development

Development of human capital contributes to the full participation of the socio-economic and political development of the country. Malawi has recognized that it has poor social indicators, especially in the areas of health and education. This is evidenced by the high child and maternal mortality rates, child and maternal malnutrition, low life expectancy, poor access to water and health facilities, and low education quality.

The Government of Malawi is making efforts to bring about improved health and education services; however it faces a number of challenges in addressing the issues. These include inadequate health personnel, poor policy decisions in education, insufficient supply of essential drugs, prevalence of HIV/AIDS and other diseases among others.

JICA Malawi office has hence since its establishment contributed to governments efforts in the area if health, education and water development.
