Signing Two (2) Grant Agreements (G/A) on "The Project for Improving Loikaw General Hospital in Kayah State" and "The project for Improving Lashio General Hospital in Shan State"

On 29 May 2014 (Thursday), Department of Health (DoH) under Ministry of Health and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) successfully signed on two (2) Grant Agreements (G/A) of "the Project for Improving Loikaw General Hospital in Kayah State" and "the Project for Improving Lashio General Hospital in Shan State" after signing Exchange of Note (E/N) between Governments of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Japan on 24 March 2014 and 24 April 2014 respectively.

At that ceremony, Dr. Min Than Nyunt, Director General and concerned officials from Department of Health, Mr. Masahiko TANAKA, Chief Representative and personnel of JICA Myanmar Office attended.

The said projects are going to extend grants of the amount up to "one billion nine hundred and forty five million Japanese Yen" (JPY1,945,000,000) for Loikaw General Hospital and "one billion five hundred and ten million Japanese Yen" (JPY 1,510,000,000) for Lashio General Hospitals with the purpose to strengthen the function of Loikaw and Lashio General Hospitals as the referral hospitals by improving their infrastructure and equipment under Grant Aid scheme of the Government of Japan in order to provide appropriate medical service to people in Kayah State and Shan State.

In Loikaw General Hospital, total two (2) main buildings (East and West) and other facilities, such as roofed passage, guard house, electrical room and elevated water tank will be constructed. Department of Health and JICA hope to complete construction and equipment supply in the middle of 2016.

For Lashio General Hospital, four (4) buildings, including two (2) Main buildings (North and South), Substance Abuse Treatment and Mental Health Service Center (SAMSC) and Mortuary will be reconstructed. Department of Health and JICA hope to complete construction and equipment supply in the middle of 2017.

The Government of Japan expects to extend friendship between Myanmar and Japan through the said grant projects.
