Signing of Grant Agreement on The Project for Extension of Broadcast Equipment of Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV)

On 29 March 2017 (Wednesday) at 9:30 am, Japanese Grant Agreement (G/A) for the Project for Extension of Broadcast Equipment of Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) was signed by U Myint Htway, Director General, Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV), Ministry of Information and Mr. Nobuo IWAI, Acting Chief Representative of JICA Myanmar Office at MRTV station, Tatkone, Nay Pyi Taw.

With the scope of Exchange of Note (E/N) signed on 3 March 2017, Japanese Grant Agreement (G/A) for the Project for Extension of Broadcast Equipment of Myanma Radio and Television was granted amount up to two billion two hundred and sixty-three million Japanese Yen (JPY2,263,000,000) to rehabilitate MRTV Yangon studio and provide necessary broadcast equipment to MRTV, with aiming at improving environment for producing high quality broadcast programs for two stations of MRTV in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon.

The Japanese Grant Aid Project is expected to achieve (i) Development of high quality broadcasting program production and increase broadcasting hours, and (ii) Promotion of capacity development of Human Resources supporting social and economic development through increase of expressive and quality TV and Radio programs.

Since 1982, Japanese Grant Aid assistance was provided for the construction of Studio Centre and necessary program production equipment in MRTV, Yangon after establishing broadcasting program of MRTV by utilizing equipment donated by the Japan Foundation in 1980.

The G/A project implementation will be further strengthened with the on-going technical cooperation project, the Project for Capacity Development of the Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV), where a team of Japanese technical experts is providing capacity development of MRTV personnel in usage of those equipment, TV and radio program productions and news reporting, and institutional management. These projects will support MRTV to become a Public Service Broadcaster in the future.
