Signing of Grant Agreement on the Project for Improvement of Magway General Hospital

On 2nd April 2017 (Sunday), Department of Medical Services (DMS) under Ministry of Health and Sports and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) successfully signed Grant Agreement (G/A) of "the Project for Improvement of Magway General Hospital" providing grant aid of up to 2.281 billion Japanese Yen after signing Exchange of Note (E/N) between Governments of the republic of the Union of Myanmar and Japan on 7 December 2016.

In this ceremony, Professor Myint Han, Director General and concerned officials from Department of Medical Services, and Mr. Nobuo IWAI, Acting Chief Representative of JICA Myanmar Office attended.

This project will construct a new wing that includes obstetrics and gynecology ward, a neonatal unit, an emergency department and a surgery department on the existing campus of Magway General Hospital, the core medical facility for Magway Region. The project will also provide the equipment required for the new facilities to improve the health services at the hospital, thereby contributing to better living for residents in Magway Region.

The Grant shall be used by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar exclusively for the construction of facilities, procurement and installation of medical equipment and consulting services for the Magway General Hospital in order to improve health care services for people in the region.

The Government of Japan expects to extend friendship between Myanmar and Japan through the mentioned grant project.
