The Handing Over Ceremonies for the "Project for Improvement of Road Construction and Maintenance Equipment in Kachin State and Chin State"

The Handing Over Ceremonies for the "Project for Improvement of Road Construction and Maintenance Equipment in Kachin State and Chin State" was held in in Hakha, Chin State and Myitkyina, Kachin State respectively on 4 June 2017.

H.E. U Win Khaing, Union Minister, Ministry of Construction, H.E. U Salai Lian Lwal, Chief Minister, H.E. U Zo Bawi, Speaker of Chin State Hluttaw, H.E. U Sui Thio, Minister, Ministry of Road Transport, Electricity and Industry, and regional ministers of Chin State Government, H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan, officials concerned from the Ministry of Construction and Chin State Government, and distinguished guests attended the ceremony held at the Mechanical Compound of Department of Highways, Ministry of Construction in Hakha, Chin State.

For the Handing Over Ceremony in Myitkyina, Kachin State, H.E. Dr. Khet Aung, Chief Minister, H.E. U Tun Tin, Speaker of the Kachin State Hluttaw, U Win Nyunt, Minister, Ministry of Road Transport, Electricity and Industry, and regional ministers of Kachin State Government, Mr. Masayuki KARASAWA, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Myanmar Office, officials concerned from the Ministry of Construction and Kachin State Government, and distinguished guests attended the ceremony held at the Mechanical Compound of Department of Highways, Ministry of Construction in Myitkyina, Kachin State.

The Project aims to improve construction and maintenance of roads in Kachin State and Chin State by using the machineries and equipment provided by the project, and thereby improves socioeconomic development of the people living in Kachin State and Chin State.

Ministry of Construction and JICA concluded the Grant Agreement for the said Grant Aid Project in Nay Pyi Taw on 1 October 2015. The Grant amount was JPY 2,740 million. The Project provided construction equipment, road/bridge test equipment, operator-training equipment to the Ministry of Construction in Kachin State and Chin State. The Project also provided training equipment for Central Training Center (Thuwunna), Mechanical Compound (Mandalay), Mechanical Compound (Mayangone), Road Research Laboratory, and Bridge Research Laboratory. In addition, the Project will also provide technical assistance for equipment management system and pilot road construction.

By using the machineries and equipment provided by the Project, Ministry of Construction will be able to rehabilitate the road sections, especially damaged road links in Chin State which were hit by heavy rainfall and severe landslides in July 2015. The Project will further strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Construction and thereby contribute to the socioeconomic development of Kachin State and Chin State.
