The Seminar for Occupational Therapy was held in Yangon

On 27 April 2018, Refresher course on Occupational Therapy was successfully held in Yangon General Hospital. This seminar was organized by Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, Yangon General Hospital and JICA volunteer who is currently working for Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Yangon General Hospital.

The purpose of this seminar is to disseminate the concept of occupational therapy and provide its practical training to physio therapists who are in service. Total 68 physio therapists joined this seminar from all over the Myanmar.

JICA has been conducted various cooperation in health and medical sector in Myanmar and one of the technical cooperation project on Strengthening of Rehabilitation in Myanmar has implemented since 2008 to 2013. At the same time, JICA dispatch JICA volunteers to support to improve and strengthen rehabilitation services in Yangon general hospital and National rehabilitation hospital. JICA volunteer program in Myanmar has been implemented since January 2013 and since 2014, 2 JICA volunteers on Occupational Therapy, Mr. Susumu Otsuka and Mr. Toshimichi Umezaki, were dispatched to Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Yangon general hospital. After them, currently, new JICA volunteers on Speech Therapy and Rehabilitation nursing are planned to start their activity in Yangon General hospital from June 2018.

In the opening address of the seminar, Dr. Daw Yee Yee Myint, Rector/ medical Superintendent and Professor Dr. Khin Myo Hla, head of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation expressed their gratitude to JICA and JICA volunteers.
