Launching Ceremony of The Project for the Construction of New Yangon Specialist Hospital

On 20th July 2018, the launching ceremony of "the Project for the Construction of New Yangon Specialist Hospital" was held at meeting hall of the training center at Yangon General Hospital.

In this ceremony, H.E Dr. Myint Htwe, Union Minister of Health and Sports (MoHS), H.E Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Mr. Masayuki KARASAWA, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delivered the speech. After the ceremony, the officials had a site visit to the project site area and Japanese consultant from Yamashita Sekkei Inc., Azusa SekkeiCo.Ltd accompanied the officials to explain about plan of construction.

JICA grants total amount of 8.661 billion Japanese Yen to the government of Myanmar to construct a new seven (7) stories building with teaching functions, through relocation of the selected four clinical departments for Neurosurgery, Neuro Medicine, Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology of Yangon General Hospital, a top referral hospital of Myanmar, construct the facilities of a specialist hospital to treat cardiovascular patients, and provide the specialist hospital with equipment. The government of Myanmar will take responsibility to procure equipment required for the new facilities to improve the health services at the hospital.

This project will make it possible to enhance patient-centered medical and healthcare services for cerebral and cardiovascular diseases in Myanmar by providing more treatment on inpatients and outpatients and reducing the waiting time for treatment and surgery, and make advanced heart disease and neurosurgical operations possible. In addition to this project, JICA is carrying out technical cooperation to develop medical human resources and strengthen the health care system, comprehensively working to improve the medical as well as health care services in Myanmar.

The project is currently under the detailed designing process conducted by the project management consultant hired by MoHS. After completion of the detailed designing, it has been scheduled to commence the construction around February 2019.

This new specialist hospital is one of the figurative milestonesof cooperation between new governments of Myanmar and Japan.
