JICA's Hospital Reconstruction for Nepal Earthquake has begun

On July 27, 2016 Ground Breaking Ceremony has taken place at Amppipal Hospital in Palungtar Municipality, located in Gorkha District, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred on April 25, 2015 in Nepal. The ceremony cerebrated commencement of the first hospital reconstruction within the reconstruction program cooperated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Amppipal Hospital provides high quality medical service including 24 hours emergency maternity treatments to 20,000 local people per year. Due to the earthquake the hospital was half destroyed and heavily damaged, therefore the patients have been treated under limited and dangerous condition.

To ensure safety operation of the hospital, JICA is going to contribute to reconstruction through ‘Quick Impact Projects (QIPs)' in ‘The Project on Rehabilitation and Recovery from Nepal Earthquake (RRNE)'.

The ceremony announced the start of reconstruction that is planned to take 13 months period. Many participants including Dr. Kshitiz Chandra Paudel, the Medical Director of Amppipal Hospital, expressed their gratification of bright future of the hospital and further development of the field of health and hygiene within Nepal.

JICA has also committed to reconstruct damaged buildings of Bir hospital and Paropakar Maternity and Women's hospital in Kathmandu, both of which are playing indispensable roles in country's medical service.
