Opening the application for JDS (Scholarship Program for studying in Japan) in Nepal!

On the 1st August, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Embassy of Japan, and JICA Nepal Office noticed the opening of applications for "The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship by Japanese Grant Aid (JDS) 2018 (AY2019-2020)".

JDS applications for 2018 are now open for young and highly capable Nepali gazetted officials.

The objective of the JDS project is to support human resource development in countries that are partners of Japanese Grant Aid, through providing the opportunity to young and highly capable government officials to obtain a master's degree. They are expected to engage in formulating and implementing social and economic development plans and become leaders in their countries.

Under the JDS project, JDS fellows, as scholars having well-rounded knowledge of Japan, shall contribute to an expanded and enhanced foundation for bilateral relations between their country and Japan.

The JDS Project began 3 years ago and the 3rd Batch of JDS Fellows will be dispatched to each accepting university in this August.

With competitive selections in Nepal, a maximum of 20 successful candidates will be selected by early March, 2019 and will be dispatched to Japan in August, 2019 as the 4th Batch of JDS Fellows from Nepal. And the target organizations are all governmental organizations.

JICA Nepal Office welcome applications from young and passionate Nepali gazetted officials.

Eligible applicants satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Be a citizen of Nepal
  2. Between the age of 25 and 40 as of April 1, 2019
  3. Currently employed in the Target Organization as a Gazetted Official with 3 years or more work experience, at the time of application.
  4. Have bachelors' degree; Bachelor of Law is required for applying to Kyushu University
  5. Have a good command of both written and spoken English (IELTS 5.5 (with no sub-band under 5.0)/TOEFL score of 500 or higher is preferred)
  6. Have not been awarded any foreign government scholarship for obtaining a master's degree in a foreign country.
  7. Military personnel registered on the active list or person on alternative military service cannot apply for JDS.

  • The application deadline is 25th September, 2018 and all necessary application documents must be submitted to the department in charge of the JDS Project at each Target Organization.
