JDS Scholarship Project announces the opening of application for both master's and doctor's courses.

The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Embassy of Japan, and JICA Nepal Office has announced the opening call for applications for "The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship by Japanese Grant Aid (JDS) 2019 (AY2020)".

JDS offers 20 seats for two-year master's course and 2 seats for three-year PhD for the first time this year, under 1st batch of the second phase of JDS in Nepal who are engaged in formulating and implementing socio-economic development planning and to study at graduate schools in Japan. The Master's Degree with an objective to resolve development challenges in Nepal supports the young government officials, and the doctor's degree course in Japanese higher educational institutions offers others who are expected to become leaders in Nepal thereby contributing to strengthen the bilateral partnership.

Under the JDS project, JDS fellows as scholars having well-rounded knowledge of Japan, shall contribute to an expanded and enhanced foundation for bilateral relations between their country and Japan.

The JDS Project began 4 years ago and through the program, 80 Nepali government officials have been provided with the opportunities to study the master's degree course. With competitive selections in Nepal, candidates will be selected by March, 2020 and will be dispatched to Japan in August, 2020 as the 1st batch of the second phase JDS Fellow. The target organizations are all governmental organizations.

JICA Nepal Office welcomes applications from passionate Nepali gazetted officials.

Master's course applicants should be/have:

  1. Nepali nationals.
  2. between the ages of 25 and 40 as of April 1st, 2020.
  3. a Bachelor's degree.
  4. at least 3 years of work experience in Civil Service at the time of applications.
  5. gazetted civil servants currently employed in all ministries, agencies under ministries, constitutional bodies, other institutions and authorities, and courts.
  6. Or civil servants (Level 7 and above) originally recruited by the federal government and deputed/adjusted to 7 provincial and 753 local governments.
  7. a strong will to work for the development of Nepal after their return home.
  8. in good health.
  9. English language proficiency sufficiently fluent for studying in Japan.

Doctor's course applicants should be/have:

  1. Nepali nationals.
  2. between the ages of 30 and 45 as of April 1st, 2020.
  3. a Master's degree (including universities in Nepal).
  4. at least 5 years of work experience in Civil Service at the time of applications.
  5. gazetted civil servants (Under Secretary and above) currently employed in all ministries, agencies under ministries, constitutional bodies, other institutions and authorities, and courts.
  6. Or civil servants (Level 9 and above) originally recruited by the federal government and deputed/adjusted to 7 provincial and 753 local governments.

  7. a strong will to work for the development of Nepal after their return home.
  8. in good health
  9. sufficient English language ability to pursue a doctor's degree.

The application deadline is 1st November 2019 for the master's and 10th January 2020 for the doctor's. All necessary application documents must be submitted to the JDS Project Office in Thapathali.
