Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the countries with the lowest income level in Latin America. While many of its regions lack basic social infrastructure, there is a high demand for electricity and potable water. Damages from natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes can be seen alongside those lagging from its civil war. The GNI per capita of Nicaragua is US$1,650(2012:World Bank), and the country is classified as a lower middle income country. In order to promote the poverty reduction and stable economic growth through disparities mitigation, JICA focuses on infrastructure development for economic activation, social development for the low-income people and regions, and environmental conservation, and disaster risk reduction.
