Project for Improvement of Training Capacity on Grid System Operation and Maintenance

Technical Services Group of NTDC was established in 1985 with Canadian assistance which includes 3 training centers in Lahore, Faisalabad and Tarbela to provide training to NTDC and DISCOs staff for operation and maintenance of Grid System. Since then TSG continued this training facility without any external support/assistance, most of the syllabus has become old and the testing equipment has become obsolete. In order to improve the situation, JICA planned training of trainers, improvement of training curriculum and procurement of new testing equipment under this project.

Project Summary

This technical cooperation project is aimed at up-gradation of Technical Services Group of NTDC. The main components of this project include up-gradation of Training Curriculum; Provision of Training Equipment; Training of Trainers in Japan & Dispatch of JICA Experts in the areas of Grid Stations Operations & Maintenance (O&M); Protection & Instrumentation; T/L O&M and training planning.

Project Highlights

Two rounds of survey have been completed in which list of testing equipment has been finalized. In the first batch of training of trainers, 10 deputy managers and 4 managers visited Japan in October 2011 whereas second and third batches are planned in 2012 and 2013. Procurement of training equipment has been started and this is expected to be completed by end of 2012.
