Background
Strengthening the Technical Education and Vocational Training is one of the prioritized areas of national development identified by the Government of Pakistan. Enhancing human resource development especially through technical and skill development is expected to contribute the development of value-added manufacturing with enhanced global competitiveness in the county. Besides, the Government of Pakistan expects that expansion of skill development programme will facilitate induction of ever-increasing young populations into the labor market. The Government of Pakistan drafted the National Skills Strategy 2009-2013 for the first time to set a direction of strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) activities.
Establishing industry specific centers of excellence is one of the strategies of the National Skills Strategy. The project aims to add further value to the on-going Technical Cooperation Project which is to assist the development of center of excellence for mechanical and architecture courses to provide the skill training relevant to the needs of industries.

Project Summary
The project intends to improve the capacity of Mechanical and Architecture Departments of Government College of Technology Railway Road, Lahore through construction of Architecture building and improving necessary equipment of Mechanical and Architecture Departments. The on-going Technical Cooperation Project “The project for development of Center of Excellence” aims to improve the quality of technical education at Government College of Technology, Railway Road, Lahore and this project will provide a better infrastructure for the quality of education and maximize the benefit to be produced though the Technical Cooperation Project. The equipment to be provided will be in line with the curricula to be revised through the Technical Cooperation Project.
Project Highlights
Induction of female students into the architecture courses is one of the highlights of the on-going technical cooperation project. The building to be constructed by the project will be female student friendly design. It is expected the project will further promote the equity of provision of skill development opportunities to both genders.
