JICA facilitates training on career advancement plan

Islamabad; 1 February, 2016: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) are implementing a project titled "In country Training and Provision of Equipment for Baluchistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS)". One of the key Outputs of this project relates to the strengthening of career development functions of BUITEMS' Directorate of University Advancement & Financial Assistance.

National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) & BUITEMS are both Engineering Universities with NUST having substantial knowledge, expertise & experiences in Career Development & BUITEMS having similar ambitions and vision for its future Career Development outlook. Both the universities agreed to collaborate with each other, hence, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 17 June, 2015.

The key objectives of cooperative relationship contemplated and envisaged by this MoU is to arrange 2 weeks training from 18 to 29 January 2016 at NUST in order to strengthen on-campus and outreach assistance aiming at career counseling and career development of undergraduate students. It contributes to establishing the base for promotion/partnership with industry, academic teaching, learning on campus environment with industry driven research innovation and job placement of qualifying students. The highlighted features of the training were:

  1. Formulation of Career Development Action Plan (CDAP) focusing on career counseling and linkages with employers etc.
  2. Orientation of career counseling staff based on CDAP focusing on career counseling services improvement
  3. Strengthening of on-campus advisory career counseling services based on CDAP
  4. Strengthening of outreach assistance through job fairs at university with participation from students & prospective employers
  5. Formal arrangements for scholarships and/or other assistance with interested employers for student research
  6. Formal arrangement with interested employers for internship/job placement of qualified graduate students

NUST has hold different workshops, field visits and job shadowing across 2 weeks on topics that include training BUITEMS Officials to build students' linkage with industry and academia for seeking employment, internship opportunities, interviews, campus recruitment drives, development and running of a Career Development Centre at BUITEMS and communication with various campus departments and industry employers to help students achieve academic and professional goals.

After completion of successful training, Pro-Rector, NUST, Mr. Irfan has distributed the certificates to six (6) participants from BUITEMS.
