JICA sends disabilities course trainees for training in Japan

Islamabad, January 31, 2014: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched 07 member group for "Support System for the Persons with Disabilities Course" to Japan. For this 18 days course, a sendoff ceremony was organized today in a local hotel at Islamabad. Mr. Asghar Ali, Section Officer who is In-charge of JICA training programme in Economic Affairs Division (EAD) attended the sendoff ceremony besides Mr. Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki, Chief Representative of JICA.

Mr. Asghar Ali, while speaking to the trainees said "You will be the representatives of your country in Japan. I expect you to learn the Japanese approach towards the issues of special persons and implement them in your respective domain".

Mr. Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki, in his speech said "Support system for persons with disabilities is very crucial since it provides an enabling environment that would allow full realization of the potential of special persons through their inclusive mainstreaming and providing them full support of the government, private sector and civil society".

While concluding his remarks, Mr. Kawasaki said "I strongly hope you will return to Pakistan with a firm commitment to make a difference in creating an enabling environment for persons with disabilities which will help them in achieving their aspirations".

This Training Programme for Young Leaders of Pakistan is initiated by the Government of Japan under technical cooperation scheme for Pakistan. The course has been designed essentially for young social welfare sector professionals of the provincial and federal government in Pakistan. It is expected to enhance and polish the capabilities of the participants in the field of social welfare, especially for persons with disabilities through the Japanese experience. The Training Programme for Young Leaders was started by JICA in 1991 and till date around 525 government officials of various ministries and departments of the Government of Pakistan have been sent to Japan for training in various fields of technical and management positions.
