Islamabad; 31 March, 2015: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under technical cooperation will improve the human resource development system of disaster management. A Record of Discussion (RD) to this effect was signed here today amongst Mr. Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki, Chief Representative of JICA; Major General, Asghar Nawaz, Chairman, NDMA; Mr. Ahmad Kamal, Member Disaster Risk Reduction, NDMA and Mr. Syed Mujtaba Hussain, Joint Secretary, Economic Affairs Division (EAD).

Owing to its climate and geography, Pakistan is particularly disaster-prone country.

The country's first ever National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) was developed with support of JICA and approved by National Disaster Management Commission (NDMC) chaired by Prime Minister of Pakistan in February 2013. National Human Resource Development Plan was formulated as part of the NDMP. As NDMA and PDMAs are newly established organizations; therefore it is necessary to develop their capacities for implementation of NDMP. On the basis of this situation, JICA has undertaken to strengthen the capacity of National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) for improvement of human resource development system in disaster management. It is hoped that the comprehensive NDMP implemented through trained human resources will bear the desired results and help Pakistan manage the disastrous challenges professionally.
