The Promotion Seminar for the Scholarships for Government Officers under the Japanese Grant Aid Held of "The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)"

Islamabad, 10 December 2018: A promotion seminar for the scholarships for government officers under the Japanese grant aid was held at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform, Islamabad by Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE).

Through this scholarship, 18 scholars for master's program (2 years) and 2 scholars for doctoral program (3 years) of the graduate schools at universities in Japan will be recruited from federal government officers of Pakistan. They will start their study from the summer of 2019 and will be granted full scholarship including tuition fee, monthly stipend, air fare etc.

In the seminar, Mr. Rashid Sohail, Deputy Secretary of EAD, Mr. Yuji Tokita, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan and Mr. Takuya Sei, Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Pakistan, delivered complimentary speech and apprised the participants and potential applicants about this program.

Mr. Tokita said in his the speech at the event said, "Through this scholarship, I believe you will give a significant impact on policy making after you return and I do hope the relationship between Pakistan and Japan will be strengthened."

Mr. Amin Haider Shah, Section Officer, Revenue Division, Government of Pakistan is a graduate from GRIPS University in Japan. He made an outstanding and informative presentation on his academic achievements and experiences in Japan as well as the career path as government officer after returning to Pakistan.

The seminar, attended by approximately by 30 number of people provided an excellent platform for exchanges of opinions, questions and answers between the presenters and participants about life in Japan with family and application documents.

It is expected that JDS in Pakistan will contribute to strengthening administrative organizations and solving development issues through training of Pakistani government officers.

Note 1: General Information of the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)

  • The purpose of JDS is to support human resources development in countries receiving Japanese grant aid, targeting highly capable young government officials who are expected to engage in formulating and implementing social and economic development plans, as well as to expand and enhance foundation for bilateral relations between recipient countries and Japan through JDS fellows as persons having a well-rounded knowledge of Japan.
  • Up to October 2018 since 2000, total of 4,302 scholars (fellows) have been sent to Japan for their studies in Japan from 15 countries, Uzbekistan, Laos, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Kyrgyz Republic, Nepal, Sri Lanka and others.

Note 2: JDS in Pakistan

  • Supposing that the application requirements of JDS are fulfilled such as age, work experience, academic background and others, all federal CSS/Cadre officers and federal Ex-cadre officers are eligible.   • Application documents are required to reach EAD by the deadline on December 24th, 2018.
  • The second Promotion Seminar for JDS are scheduled on December 17th, at the same venue.
