PSBM: Unique Activities at Planning of School Activities

PhotoProposals school submitted to PELITA National Office.

SMP (Junior Secondary School) and MTs (Islamic Junior Secondary School) in Kab.Serang, Kota Serang and Kab. Pandeglang in Banten Province are in the process of planning school's activities. Through proposal written together by the principal, teachers with the cooperation of school committees, School Team formulates several activities to improve the quality of education in the school.

The contents of the proposal reflect the activities that can solve problems of education in schools and sub-districts. In the proposal itself, a school explains the existing problems and then tries to solve those problems by conducting the activities. By that reason, the proposal made by each school is different.

PELITA National Office has received all the proposals from targeted schools. Some schools had to revise their proposals because of some mistakes. Those mistakes included calculation errors as well as the expenditures included in the "Negative List", which is related to the rules used by JICA.

Basically, all proposals included activities to improve the quality of education. These activities are composed of activities for teachers, students and community members.

There are activities in schools that are very unique, such as training of making soy sauce and tempeh, catfish farming, training of making paving block, and others whose participants are students. There are also activities to welcome the holy month of Ramadan for students such as Ramadan Boarding Class (Pesantren Kilat). This activity is expected to provide understanding to students about the essence of Ramadan.  For the teachers, some schools plan to conduct MGMP activity in the school level, computer training for teachers and others.

PhotoStaff checking a proposal. We checked about 700 proposals this year.

At sub-district level, through TPK, the proposed activities are sub-district level competitions for students, socialization of education to the community in the sub-district area, and others.

Once approved, the plan of school activities as stated in the proposal will be implemented based on the schedule. With careful planning and support of every stakeholder involved with school and TPK, all activities will be accomplished smoothly. In addition, these activities are expected to solve the problems on education so that the quality of education will be improved.
