People say traditional music instrument has been gradually forgotten in young generation. But it is different in MTs Al Khaeriyah Cikolelet in Cinangka Subdistrict, Serang District.

Calung is a prototype of angklung, which is traditional music instrument in Sunda area, made of bamboo.  We play Calung by hitting with bamboo rod composed of tone.  Though it is looked as same as angklung, but the way of playing is different.

It was interesting time when PELITA team visited MTs Al Khaeriyah Cikolelet on Monday (11/10) for monitoring.  The students showed their skill in traditional music of Calung.  The performance was more attractive with a comedy by students.  According to the principal of MTs Al Khaeriyah Cikolelet, Mr. H. Sarin Ishak, Calung training took priority in PELITA program beside teachers’ training, sport training and life skill because school can facilitate to improve students’ creativity and skill of traditional music.  “The most important thing is students can be motivated and more spirit to find their skill that they have. In the past, they directly went home after classes, but now they are happy to come to school and spend longer time in the school”, the principal said.
