PSBM:TPK Monitors School Activities

PhotoCompulsory Education Dissemination Program implemented at a MTs. Students’ guardians and village leaders attended.

In the reference sites of PSBM (Participatory School-Based Management), TPK (Sub-district Education Development Team) and schools have been implementing the activities based on their proposals. PELITA-PSBM Team sat October as the Monitoring Month, and visited twenty-three TPK/schools by the end of October.

In considering the issues of education of the region, the economic situation of the region naturally becomes one of the topics. How people in the region live, how they work, and what the road condition around the school is like are also things that PELITA-PSBM Team monitors besides actual interviews at TPK and schools.

Regional Outline of Two TPK

TPK Cipocok Jaya(Serang City):Educational situation of the region is not good. Although they want to improve the quality of education, it is difficult to receive community contribution because some parents are illiterate and some children are from poor families. Among the schools in the same TPK, it is easier for schools in the city than those in the village to receive community contribution.

TPK Bojonegara(Serang District):The public order has become worse since part of this sub district became industrialized. There was a case that a thief broke into a school, so people are very cautious. Meanwhile, the surrounding companies have started educational support as part of their CSR.

The impressing thing during the monitoring was that most TPK said that the barrier between junior secondary schools (SMP) and Islamic junior secondary schools (MTs) had become smaller since they started the program, being asked what changed before and after the program. Although there is a difference in the extent of solidarity in one TPK to another, all TPK have been dealing with or trying to deal with the educational problems particular to the region as one united TPK.

A Remark by TPK

TPK Pamarayan(Serang District):It is very motivational that the whole region can work all together. Since PELITA started, SMP and MTs have started coordinating each other. BOS (School Operational Grant) itself is not enough. This kind of activity has to be started from the primary school level.

Each school implements the activity to solve their particular problems. PELITA Team has facilitated schools to plan their activities, considering the three core stakeholders; “teachers”, “students”, and “community”. At each TPK/school, activities are to be done as they planned in the proposal. PELITA Team found it was the students who implemented the activity most enthusiastically.

PhotoMGMP implemented at TPK. All teachers in the region, regardless of SMP or MTs, studied on the curriculum together.
