The 1st National Trainers' Training has been finished

On October 30th 2009, the National Trainers’ Training (TOT) has been successfully finished all the activities. As it was introduced in Implementation of 1st National Trainer Training (TOT)(2009-08-12), JICA Expert Team conducted the training for 382 personnel in Indonesia, by dividing them into two batches (1st batch training from July to August, 2nd batch training from September to October), in three different venues in Indonesia; Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Each training took 14-days (2 batches x 3 venues = 6 training). Participants were representative from all provinces in Indonesia. The detail number of participants is shown below.

The contents and program of this training were same as explained in Implementation of 1st National Trainer Training (TOT)(2009-08-12). During the overall training days, the participants showed high interest in lesson study and participated in discussion and, Q&A session, enthusiastically. JICA Experts are very confident that all participants enjoyed learning, and understood what lesson study is.

However, some participants were mainly interested in methodology of teaching or theoretical background of lesson study, whereas they were less motivated in actual activities of schools (open class and reflection). Thus, there is a big gap of interest between theory and practice. With this reality, JICA Experts realize that it is important for Indonesia that education stakeholders experience lesson study activities more and deeper, and promote their awareness to grasp the quality of education, from the practice, not only from the theory.

On the other hand, there are some impacts after the National Trainers’ Training. After that, all 33 LPMP conducted the LS training (7 days) by themselves, for to the targeted pilot kabupaten which will start lesson study in 2010. Many Balai Diklat (Regional Teacher Training Centers under Ministry of Religious Affairs), Dinas P&K kabupaten (District Education Department) and schools already conducted socialization workshop by their own budget. For example, LPMP or schools in Riau Province and Babel Province asked UPI (PELITA’s resource university) to deliver a presentation in their provinces. Kab. (District) Semarang in Cental Java Province visited SMPN1 Srandakan in Kab. Bantul to learn more about their activity. Kab. Kulon Pulogo in Yogyakarta Province asked UNY (PELITA’s resource university) to deliver a presentation in their district. Teachers, Pengawas (school supervisors) and principals from Kab. Sampang in East Java Province visited SMPN2 Gempol in Kab. Pasuruan since they were motivated after the National Trainers’ Training.

Thus, 386 trainees who participated in the National Trainers’ Training started to disseminate LS in each province and district. This movement will grow further more, from now on. JICA Expert team truly hopes that LS be implemented in as many schools as possible and contribute to enhance quality of lesson of Indonesian teachers.
