The 1st Technical Exchange Program has been finished

Our new counterparts in West Sumatra Province/Kota (city) Padang, South Kalimantan Province /Kota Banjarbaru, and North Sulawesi Province/Kab. (district) North Minahasa, have started lesson study (LS) activities from July 2009. However, they are still struggling how to implement LS effectively, and how to improve the quality. Therefore, in order to know more and concretely how to conduct LS, 32 educational stakeholders from each province visited our LS reference sites, Kab. Sumedang, Kab. Bantul, and Kab. Pasuruan in August, September and November, 2009.

The program was a combination of lecture and LS practice. As for the practice, the participants from the new target site visited schools of LSBS (school based Lesson Study) and one of the MGMP (Subject Teacher Training Forum) mathematics base-camp. As for the lectures, participants had a chance to listen the experiences and lessons learnt from guru, principals, Dinas P&K (District Education Department), and LS resource universities of UPI/UNY/UM in the LS implementation. JICA Experts also gave a lecture about “what is a good lesson”, difference between LSBS and MGMP, and some outcomes and issues of LS activities in Kab. Sumedang, Kab. Bantul and Kab. Pasuruan. The participants of new sites were very eager to learn from LS reference sites. The discussion and Q&A time lasted for more than 2 hours!

We, JICA Experts, hope that the participants from Kota Padang, Kota Banjarbaru, and Kab. North Minahasa reflect on what they have learned from this Technical Exchange Program into their LS activities or lesson in their schools.
