This news is from last year, but our Project held an "Environmental Mural Contest" between May and June 2009 in which 5 local elementary schools participated. The contest’s theme was "This planet needs you – united against climate change!". Each participating team re-used tree leaves, seeds, empty cans, pet bottles, etc. to create a mural that expressed the relationship between environmental conservation in their local area and the global environmental problem.

PhotoOn the same day as the contest judging, the students planted trees on the school grounds. (June 10, 2009, at the Nuevo Vigia elementary school.)

PhotoThe students also had a chance to observe the trash accumulated on the shores of Alhajuela Lake. (June 10, 2009, at Vigia port.)

PhotoThe winning piece from the environmental mural contest was displayed on the "Great Green Day". (June 26, 2009 at Omar Park in Panama City.)

On June 26, the National Environmental Authority (ANAM) held an event titled "Great Green Day" to commemorate the natural resources month of June. The artwork from the mural contest was displayed during this event bringing much accolade from visitors.

Environmental education of students is prone to become repetitive, so in our Project we will continue to strive to be creative in our activities.
