Environmental Education C/P Participates in Training Course in Japan

Ms. Ednadeliz Flores, a counterpart in the Project's environmental education component, is currently in Japan to participate in a training course under JICA's regional training program for fiscal year 2008.  The course is entitled the "Central and South American Region Environmental Education Training for Sustainable Development, Course (B)" with a total of 11 trainees participating from 7 countries from Central and South America and the Caribbean.

In this course the participants study the present situation and problems of environmental education in their countries and prepare an action plan to improve the situation.  Participants come from a variety of occupations, from government officials to NGO personnel and are learning both the theory and actual situation of environmental education in Japan.

One of the main themes of this course is an introduction to ecotourism. Through lectures, practice, and field visits in Okinawa and Shizuoka Prefectures, the participants will be learning how ecotourism can contribute to sustainable development, and also the role of administration in tourism, business aspects and coordination with local sites.

After Ms. Ednadeliz returns to Panama, we will support her so that in our Project we can apply the Action Plan that she will be preparing during her training in Japan.
