Intermediate Evaluation of Alhajuela Project

For two weeks, from February 8 to 22, JICA HQ (Tokyo) sent an Intermediate Evaluation Mission (consisting of 4 people) to Alhajuela Project.  This visit had a dual purpose: one was to evaluate the advances made by the Project until now, since we are now in the midway point of the 5 year cooperation period, and to make any necessary recommendations for improvement. The second purpose was to discuss with persons related to the Project to deepen their understanding on the direction and goals the Project should set with a vision toward how to carry on activities after the Project ends.

The evaluation confirmed that the Project was basically developing according to plan and was advancing toward accomplishing the Project's Purpose.

During the intermediate evaluation, the mission visited 7 communities that are part of the Project's object communities.  Direct interviews with the groups revealed that the group members have a high level of understanding and are participating in Project activities with an awareness of the importance of watershed conservation. It was determined that the Project is bringing results little by little, but with consistency.

The Project will still continue its challenge to harmonize watershed conservation with the inhabitants' farming activities and at the same time establish ANAM's extension system.
