Creating a Leaflet for Environmental Awareness Creation

Some time ago (December 2007), the Project made a leaflet for creating environmental awareness entitled "Let's not throw trash in our Boqueron River". (The leaflet can be downloaded from "Materials for public relations and awareness creation".)

The clear waters of Boqueron River that empty into Alhajuela Lake are a beautiful attraction bringing many people to the area. However, the large amount of trash left by bathers, especially in the summer season, is polluting the river and affecting the beautiful scenery. In the face of this situation, the local inhabitants proposed making a leaflet to raise people's awareness about keeping the river clean. Our Project helped in making the leaflet.

(Photo 1, left) The front of the leaflet states: "Let's not throw trash in our Boqueron River. You are in a protected area – Chagres National Park." (Created in December 2007)
(Photo 2, right) The back of the leaflet reads: "Boqueron River is one of the sources of drinking water for Panama and Colon Cities. Let's always keep it clean!" (Created in December 2007)

The three drawings that decorate the leaflet are the three drawings that won the environmental drawing contest held that year with three schools located along the Boqueron River.  The contest theme was "The Benefit of our Boqueron River" and we received a total of 69 drawings from first to sixth grade students.

2,000 leaflets were printed and are being handed out to tourists by park rangers and interested persons from the communities.
