Cooking with Firewood

When we carry out Project activities with the groups, often times the group members will cook on an open fire to prepare lunch.  The Project supplies a part and the members bring the rest of the ingredients and the cooking utensils.  The meal is prepared in the group's outdoor kitchen.  Photo 1 shows group members cutting up cassava, plantain, onions, coriander, etc. without using a chopping board.  In photo 2, a chicken (that had been running around just minutes ago) is passed through the flame to singe off the hairs on its skin.  On this day (August 2, 2008), 5 groups came to the Peñas Blancas group farm to do group activities (a farmer-to-farmer exchange meeting), and a meal was prepared for about 40 people.
