‘The Project for Improvement of Basic Skills and Vocational Training in Southern Sudan (SAVOT)' which provided vocational training in Southern Sudan from September 2006 to January 2010, returns to Juba in August 2010 after 7 months break.

In the 1st phase, SAVOT aimed at 3 outputs, that is, (1) The technical, managerial, and physical capacity of MTC is strengthened, (2) The capacity for training delivery of non-formal training providers (such as NGOs) is strengthened, and (3) The capacity of SAVOT's training providers in employment support services is promoted. In total, 3,861 people received training at MTC and 8 SAVOT's partner NGOs and many graduates improved their livelihood by obtaining jobs utilizing their skills acquired. Therefore, citizens, demobilized soldiers, Government of Southern Sudan and industries greatly expected the second phase.

The 1st output will be targeted by Vocational Training Policy Project (another project of JICA) and (2) – (4) outputs will be targeted by SAVOT2. Malakal and Wau are also included as project sites so that it will enable SAVOT2 to provide training opportunities to more people in wider areas. You can't miss the coming news from SAVOT2!
