On May 29th, 2012, a meeting on developing the release estimation manual for the automotive/auto parts industry was held at the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), presided over by Mr. Mongkol Pruekwatana, Director of the Water Technology and Industrial Pollution Management Bureau. Representatives from various leading automotive and auto parts companies, the Thai Automotives Industrial Associations (TAIA), and the Thai Autoparts Manufacturers Association (TAPMA) participated in the meeting, expressing an interest in involvement in the JICA-PRTR project.

This meeting is preliminary to establishing the task force for developing the release estimation manual for the automotive/auto parts industry. Mr. Decha, Director of the Air Pollution Division, DIW, and the JICA Expert presented the overview of JICA-PRTR Project, and explained the selection of target substances and the definition of point source. The active discussion on establishing the task force and the task force work plan were held. The task force will consist of government officers, academia, and representatives from automotive/auto parts companies, the Federation of Thai Industry (FTI) industrial groups, and other related agencies, preparing the manual together. The first meeting of the automotive/auto parts industry task force is expected to be held in late June 2012.

The release estimation manual for the automotive/auto parts industry is the third manual to be prepared after the manual for refinery and the one for chemical/petrochemical industry, which have launched since September 2011.

Representatives from automotive/auto parts companies and related associations actively discussed the establishment of a task force at the meeting on developing the release estimation manual for automotive/auto parts industry, held on May 29th, 2012, at DIW.
